The early social studies curriculum focuses on each child’s beginning comprehension of identity separate from family, developing autonomy, and establishing a positive sense of self. At The Little School we also focus on the development of social skills necessary to be part of a group. Children learn to positively assert their own needs as well as recognize the needs and rights of others as they move toward cooperative play.
As students grow and develop we discuss and share experiences within our families, the classroom, and the KBLS campus environment as vehicles toward becoming more aware of our neighborhood and community. Students also are exposed to the concept of different occupations as well as the world of work.
